Cycle 2

In Cycle 2, we cover cycles. Cycles are a natural principle, a constantly recurring process, where something grows, requires more resources to do so, and then at the end of its life cycle decomposes back into raw materials from which new things can grow again. In nature, materials are never lost: at least until humans get involved.

The aim of sustainable waste management is to keep or reclaim as many raw materials as possible in order to make them into new things. So that this can work, we must help to unearth the valuable raw materials in waste and return them to the right cycle: this is also known as recycling.

The modules in Cycle 2 ask the children to experiment and explore. They are expected to utilise their linguistic skills and their social, creative, mathematical and motor skills in order to gain a better understanding of nature’s cycles and reusable materials.
